The Passion Flower

While also a majestic blossom, this flower in particular possesses many significant meanings. Once I explain you will see how this creation is a perfect embodiment of pain and passion while taking on the appearance of one of God's most alluring complex beauties.

Being as it is my favorite flower, its vibrancy inspired my palette of choice for my online space.

The word "passion" carries a depth of meaning that transcends mere emotion—it is a word woven with history, sacrifice, and profound intensity.

Originating from the Latin word "passio," meaning "suffering" or "enduring," it was first used in a religious context to describe the suffering of Christ during His crucifixion. Over time, its meaning expanded, evolving into a word that embodies deep devotion, unyielding fervor, and an all-consuming love—whether for faith, art, purpose, or another soul.

And even more, the passionflower is deeply symbolic of the Passion of Christ, with its intricate structure representing elements of His suffering and sacrifice. Early Christian missionaries in South America saw its unique features as a divine sign, inspiring its name.

The 10 petals and sepals symbolize the 10 faithful apostles, excluding Judas and Peter.
The crown-like filaments represent the crown of thorns placed on Jesus’ head.
The five stamens signify the five wounds of Christ—His hands, feet, and side.
The three stigmas symbolize the three nails that pierced His body.
The tendrils resemble the whips used in His scourging.

You might be wondering how can it be ten and not 12?

Well allow me to expand & emphasize on the meaning of "faithful Apostles"......

The symbolism of the 10 petals and sepals representing the 10 faithful apostles excludes Judas Iscariot because he betrayed Jesus, leading to His arrest and crucifixion. Peter is also excluded because, despite being a devoted disciple, he denied Jesus three times before His crucifixion (Matthew 26:69-75).

This interpretation highlights the loyalty of the remaining 10 apostles who remained steadfast in their faith, even as Jesus endured His Passion. The passionflower, with its deeply symbolic structure, serves as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and the unwavering devotion of His true followers.Beyond its beauty, the passionflower serves as a living reminder of faith, sacrifice, and redemption, making it a cherished symbol of Christ’s love and divine grace. ✝️💜
